This book:”Larry’s Party”is talk about that there is a horticulturist whose name is Larry Weller,he is an ordinary guy,he loves garden mazes so he spents lot of time in finding the true meaning of the life and he wants to know what does his parents,friends,lover and his sons want.From this you can easy know that the symbol is the mazes.

  “Earlier in the day he had given a short pres conference about the launch of the McCord maze,a project that has engagednhim for the last two years…but subtly, softly. Instead of the stiff, formal plantings of traditional mazes.”In Larry’s opinion,mazes are Elegant and circuitous structure sultry, like a snail, like cursive, like the Earth’s surface at random graffiti, without a clear purpose, just to the winding self-winding. This is a microcosm of his daily life,so he broke the rule,he designed the McCord,it is a mazes that go downhill when coming out of a hill,it is the symbol of people live without their own mind and then slowly regained consciousness.

Here the process of  going out of a maze means the life of human being,Larry knows that the mazes has some relation to the life,and when the readers read this book,they will think follow Larry Weller,they will think about the life.

He looks at his solid, slow-moving parents and tries to imagine the force that urged them to gather up their possessions and voyage, sight unseen, to a new country.”Larry Weller is a guy that live in  in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. from 1977 to 1997.I don’t know how to say the setting of this book but I want to say that the book give me a feeling of warm.

“Larry’s Party” is a book that describe the everyday life of Larry,when Larry was born his parents move to another place,he is so confused when he was born.The author– Carol Shields ues the cross-section writing technique,she write follow the year,but not only follow the years that is too rigid.She use the special writing technique to attract reader’s eyes and at the same time she use this detail to show how Larry Weller’s life is like.

Carol Shield use this kind of setting to show that Larry Weller is really a ordianry ,normal andcommon man.This way can help reader close to the character,and it is easy to associate to reader’s everyday life,and make reader think of their life,it contribute to the theme of the novel.A good setting can help author to attract the reader,so of course,setting is a important element in a book,if the setting is different,maybe in another city another country,in my opinion,it may not make canadians be familiar for this book as this setting.If you ask me to tell the difference,that is.

  Carol Shields ues the cross-section writing technique,every chapter is a small story in Larry’s life so in every chapter,there are some characters here,but there are still two characters who play the important role in this book,they are Larry Weller and Dorrie.

  Larry Weller is the hero of this book,all the story happened around him,he is also my favourite character,he is an ordinary,common,goodness and a little inarticulate.As his own word ”My name is Larry Weller.I’m a floral designer,twenty-six years old,and I’m walking down Notre Dame Avenue,in the city of Winnipeg,in the country of Canada,in the month of April,in the year 1977,and I’m thinking hard.About being hungry,about being late,about having sex later on tonight.About how great I feel in this other guy’s Harris tweed jacket.”It creats intimacy to me,because from this description,I know that Larry is just a normal person like me like us.Larry is simliar to me,for instance,sometimes he feelt puzzled.Like all the teenagers,we want to know why we alive,what’s the meaning of our life.I like Larry also because his personality,he never gave up,once the decide to do something he will try his best to figure out.

  In fact,I like all the characters in this book,if I must say someone I hate or maybe don’t like,I will say Larry’s first wife whose name is Dorrie.Dorrie is Larry’s first wife,she is the guy who just focus on her own business.Dorrie said:”I’m married to a maza nut.(91)”When Larry is pulzzed by what the meaning of life,she just focus on her work,focus on how to make money.even in the midst of making love Dorrie said to Larry”Hurry up,can’t you,I’ve got to be at work early tomorrow.(109)”How crazy is she!Dorrie didn’t care for what Larry thought,when they finally divorced.

  If Dorrie thought more of the what Larry thought,they won’t divorced.In fact,the reason of they divorced also because they were too young.So it cause the sad marriage.Anyway,I like Larry.

  “Larry’s Party”is a wonderfull book which is written by Carol Shields.

If you want me to sum up the theme of this book,I will say, it is a novel that describe that there is a horticulturist whose name is Larry Weller,he is an ordinary guy,he loves garden mazes so he spents lot of time in finding the true meaning of the life and he wants to know what does his parents,friends,lover and his sons want.

   This book is relevant everyone’s life because as the review said:“Larry Weller is an absolutely normal and typical human being.”Everyone is just an ordinary,including me.I often think some question that is similar to what Larry thinks,like why we alive and something like that.

   One of my favorite novels—“The Shawshank Redemption”,the hero of this book is a prisoner in the prison,he stayed in the prison and did lots of things and finally ran away.During his life in the prison,he learnt a lot of things and he improved himself,the experience of he saved himself is a process that help him to know the truth of the life and also make the readers know how important is the freedom.

    Finally,Larry Weller found what he need and what is the life , the hero in “The Shawshank Redemption” finally ran away from the prison and his experience let him grow up.These two heroes of two novels finally find the similar conclusion about the meaning of the life.

The novel which called Macbeth is a classical tragedy.It shows us that the desire has huge power, it can even destory a brave and strong man.In my opinon, witches aren’t responbility of macbeth’s death.In the other hand,Lady macbeth also is a reason that lead to Macbeth killed so many people.Lady Macbeth possesses really is a capable woman,but she also put her husband into the dark,finally,no one can save them.It’s not her fault,but it does her reason.Power provide allure,and let people lose themselves.Last but not least,”Macbeth”is a good novel but it is really difficult to read and understand,the old English is really difficult.
